Time/Date keeps resetting
Posted by adamgiles on 2025-03-20 at 23:36Recently install K6 on my ZZR1400.
Everything seems good, except the time and date reset everytime I switch it on, unless I connect the app.
Is this expected behaviour? Or is there a setting I need to change?
Thanks
Adam

Hi Adam,
The date and time reset is not as it should be.
How do you turn off the K6? If you turn it off by removing the power supply, this could be a cause.
Could it be that a large peak or dip in the supply voltage occurs when starting your ZZR1400?
The DC converter is connected properly, red and black to constant plus and minus, yellow to a switched power supply?-
Thank you for reply.
K6 is currently powered by on bike USB.
Switches on/off with ignition.
Will try more tests tomorrow.

Hi Adam,
I suspect that the problem is caused by the K6 not being turned off properly.
Maybe test by first turning off the K6 with the on/off button on the K6 and then turning off your ZZR1400.-
I have the same issue on both my bikes that both have a K6 powered by the USB plug. First bike is a 2016 Triumph Bonneville and the other is a 2016 BMW GS-A.
This I bought these because the K6 is a set it and forget it. Having to reset the time or manually turn off and on when ending and starting a ride is not good.
Any suggestions on how to fix without hard wiring into the bikes? Plugging in is about as technical as I trust myself when it comes to wiring.

Hi Mike,
Is it possible that when starting the engine, the USB plug briefly becomes de-energized, causing the K6 to lose the time setting?
When starting the engine, many motorcycles de-energize the accessories because the starter motor needs the necessary power.
Does the K6 also briefly switch off when starting?-
Thanks Hans, On my BMW it does appear that power is interrupted to the USB plug while the starter motor is turning.. But on my Triumph, it does not appear to interrupt power.
I may try changing to a hardwired connection, but to be honest, I am not that confident in my wiring connection ability. Any other suggestions please let me know.

Hi Adam,
If you power the K6 with a USB power bank, does the problem occur?
You wrote earlier that the K6 switches on and off with the ignition, is this through the yellow wire? Not that the red wire (constant power) is switched?
If you turn off the ignition, does the K6 only switch off after a few seconds? If it switches off immediately, I bet that the red wire is also switched. The red wire (and also the black) must not be switched.
