Well, that’s not exactly true. If the battery is discharging constantly the voltage drops. For lead-acid, below 12V is dead. Lithium have mostly build in safety around 12.5V. But the voltage drop when battery is drained from around 14V (depends on battery) . So You can tell how much a battery is drained and if needs replacement based on voltage and capacity (no capacity and low voltage = dead battery).
As for the power supply, the led is always on, and that’s not an issue, but when You check current and voltage, the unit supplies the 5V voltage for the camera constantly. The circuit is not disconnected regardless of ignition (the yellow control cable – ignition 12V ).
