  • Yellow wire, no cameras

Hi, I’ve just received my new N3 system without the cameras (no use for it) and want to go install it now. I’ve read that the yellow wire is actually the on/off wire for the system and should be connected to another item that gets power when turning the ignition. Does this also apply when not having any cameras or can I just connect it to the red wire and straight on to the battery. Or wil it drain the battery even when disconnecting the unit from the cradle?

    Thanks for you help guys!

    Hi Jeroen,
I recommend switching the N3 via the yellow wire.
    This has the following advantages:

    • You can’t forget to turn it on or off
    • The N3 is always shut off properly
    • Less chance of a dead battery. Power consumption isn’t much, but every little bit helps
    • The screen doesn’t stay on unnecessarily if you park the motorcycle somewhere where the screen might attract (the wrong) attention
    • For the software, it is better if it isn’t always on but is restarted at some point

The battery will not drain if the N3 is removed from the holder. The holder itself draws no power.

    Thanks weer!

    Hi Jeroen,
I would take the constant voltage directly from the battery.
You can get the switched voltage (yellow wire) from your license plate lighting, for example. This is always switched with the ignition. If you have a USB port on the dashboard, chances are that this is also switched.

    Groet uit Ede.
