How does the loop recording determine what is the oldest file to write over? Is this by date/time and if so, how does it keep track of what day/time it is?

The initial sync sets the date and time. I see that on the files. However, after some time the camera “forgot” the time and reset itself to a default time. That default time is older than the first synced time. Rather than test the behavior, I’ll ask here first.

Now if it’s a number that’s incremented, then at that point it’s a mild annoyance of finding the right day and number but at least the oldest default time stamped are not overwritten.

I don’t think it has a battery to keep the time, is it a capacitor that slowly discharges before it resets to a default time. If so, what’s the frequency that the camera must be turned on to keep the time settings?

If it’s by date/time, I can see a scenario of it being reset to default time and it just overwrites the default time stamped items despite them being more current than existing video files.
