How does the loop recording determine what is the oldest file to write over? Is this by date/time and if so, how does it keep track of what day/time it is?

The initial sync sets the date and time. I see that on the files. However, after some time the camera “forgot” the time and reset itself to a default time. That default time is older than the first synced time. Rather than test the behavior, I’ll ask here first.

Now if it’s a number that’s incremented, then at that point it’s a mild annoyance of finding the right day and number but at least the oldest default time stamped are not overwritten.

I don’t think it has a battery to keep the time, is it a capacitor that slowly discharges before it resets to a default time. If so, what’s the frequency that the camera must be turned on to keep the time settings?

If it’s by date/time, I can see a scenario of it being reset to default time and it just overwrites the default time stamped items despite them being more current than existing video files.

    Hi C,
The sequence is determined by a combination of date, time, a sequence number, and an indication of the front/rear camera. All of this is combined in the naming of the video files. So you can identify a file quite quickly. See the image of a number of my K6 files.

I don’t know exactly how long the K6 retains its time/date. This also depends on whether the K6 is connected to a USB power bank or to a constant power supply via a DC converter. It is my habit that if I haven’t used the K6 for more than two weeks, I perform a time synchronization with the app before I go riding. This is done quickly in the app, and then I know for sure that the time/date is correct again.
