  • A solid mount improves image stability

I initially installed the K7 front camera using the supplied L-bracket. I found the resulting image quality to often be severely affected by vibration. My bike (Triumph Speed 400) has bar-end mirrors, with unused 10mm mount points for regular mirrors, so I replaced the L-bracket mount with a far more solid mirror adapter (10mm reverse thread to 8mm normal thread), drilled out the Innov block to fit the 8mm bolt, and the result is noticeably less vibration in the image. It’s still not fantastic, but much improved.

Here’s an example travelling through a Sydney road with the usual terrible drivers and bumpity-bump: (the “before” video is with the L-bracket, notice the whole image shakes around a bit)

    before (L-bracket): https://youtu.be/cZPzfXzJlo4 (*)

    after (solid mount): https://youtu.be/njtUJdbYn0A

(*) I saved this recording as the driver, imho, should not be on the road; I sent the video to the taxi company basically said “sorry for the inconvenience but we can’t control how our drivers behave”)

    Hi Ben,
Thanks for sharing your info/tip about mounting it on the Triumph Speed 400.
Vibrations on a motorcycle are always a nightmare for videos.
It often depends on how and where the camera is positioned. Protruding parts of a motorcycle (handlebars, indicators, etc.) often also amplify vibrations. The same applies to plastic covers.
I hope taxi drivers will be more careful from now on. Unfortunately, I’ve had similar experiences with taxi and bus drivers here in the Netherlands.
