Battery life
Posted by tano on 2024-11-22 at 03:06I used the Helmet CAM H5 with temperatures between 3 degrees and 10 degrees and the battery life was much shorter than stated. In 2K resolution and without audio, I managed to record just under 3 hours, while the claimed battery life of 5 hours. Is it a problem with my H5 or do you have this duration too?

Hi Danilo,
when I got my H5, I used it during summer time and had a runtime of slightly above 5 hours. But it is normal that the runtimes decreases at low temperatures, because the chemical processes within the battery are running slower than at high temperatur. This causes the battery voltage to drop earlier under load. The optimal temperature for a Li-Ion battery is around 30 degrees.
Based on my experience with drones, which have the same problem in cold weather, I would say that a runtime reduction of 40% at 3 degrees is quite normal.
Regards,
Marc

Hi Danilo,
I tested the battery life of my H5 today. The test temperature was 2 degrees.
The settings used are:- Wifi timer: 3 minutes
- Video resolution: 4K 30P 3840×2160
- Bitrate: high
- Recording time: 1 minute
- EIS image stabilization: enabled
- Audio recording volume: 2
With the above settings, I was able to record for over 2.5 hours with a battery from July 2022. The original battery capacity in 2022 was over 5.5 hours at 20 degrees Celsius.
As Frostie confirms, the battery capacity drops significantly in cold weather.
In addition, the settings used also affect the battery capacity. The higher the resolution and bitrate, the harder the processor has to work and therefore will require more power.
The age of the battery also has an influence, the older the battery, the less the capacity will be.
If the battery capacity is too short for you, you can purchase a second battery or purchase the portable power interface and power the H5 with a power bank. -
Hi Hans,
Thank you for your feedback. But my battery is new, it is only a month old and while the first days it recorded for over 5 hours, now after only a month it records for only 3 hours. Unfortunately it is not a problem of temperatures, I carried out the test by starting the recording at home at 20 degrees celsius and recorded for 3 hours and 25 minutes. A battery that degrades by 40% after only a month I think is a defective battery

Hi Danilo,
It does indeed seem that the battery is defective.
You can report your complaint to your seller, hopefully he can help you.
