  • Connect Third Eye to aftermarket Dash Board

    Hi,

I am working on a custom motorcycle and I am preparing to install an AIM MXS dashboard which has a programmable display and warning lights, along with analog and digital inputs and programmable CANbus.

Would it be possible to connect the Third Eye Radar Sensor to this dashboard rather than using the mirror or watch displays?

    Thanks

    Rob

    Hi Rob,
I think that if you are a handy technician who knows something about electronics, you should be able to pull this off. I am therefore very curious about the result. You could use the signals from the ThirdEyes display as input for the AIM MXS. Do pay attention to the voltage level the Third Eye provides and what you can use as input on the analog input of the dashboard.

If you succeed, please post photos and/or video😃.

Yes, I can see how using the mirror version I could connect the system to the dashboard. The signal to each of the displays would be a PWM signal to each LED (as it light sensor and must control how bright the LED is). Running ther PWM signal through a small filter would convert it to a DC signal.

If I do implement this, it will be a while off as the new dashboard is not yet installed along with a new wiring harnesss, but I will allow for it in my design.

If I do implement it I will share my results.

    Hi Rob,
I am curious about the final result.
If you can measure the PWM frequency, you can design a filter for the signal using this data. I saw on the internet that this is often done with an Arduino as well.
Good luck and keep us posted.
