    Connection to BMW electric cradle

Posted by Darren on 2026-04-15 at 23:40

Why is it so hard to clip in the device to the cradle? It’s almost there and the electrics are connected, but the same thing just won’t firmly clich into place! And suggestions? Was gona try a bit of graphine powder or perhaps a squirt of GT 85 but before I do, any tricks of the trade out there?

    Hi Darren,
I assume you do have the N2 Display for BMW?
Do you have photos/video of the mount and the back of the N2 BMW?

    The manual does mention:
    Important Notes:
    1. Clone mounts sold in the aftermarket differ structurally and electronically from genuine BMW mounts; the N2 is not compatible with them. Ensure you are using an original BMW mount to avoid damaging related components.
    2. Due to the wide variety of BMW models, production years, and differences in onboard computer software versions, compatibility issues may occur. If problems arise,
please contact our after-sales service promptly.

Is there no visible damage to the mount that would prevent the N2 from clicking properly?

    I certainly wouldn’t use
graphine powder because it is conductive. So, if too much graphite powder remains, you could cause a short circuit between the electrical connections. With GT85, there is a chance that dirt will stick to it again. In principle, the N2 BMW should click into place normally without requiring too much force.

It’s a brand new bike with a brand new navigator mount. Ive previously asked your help department if it would fit and sent them a photo. They told me it would fit. It’s just tight. Ive seen videos on you tube and rrad posts about it being a bit tight from other users. I’m a bit worried about pushing it into the cradle to hard.

It almost goes in. It needs another ½mm of clearance. The electric button at the top almost closes but doesn’t make a assertive click. Can you recoment a lube which could give it the edge it needs?

      Hi Darren,
From a distance, it is difficult to say how hard you can push.

It is possible that once the N2 is clicked into the holder, it might work better the next time. Perhaps just the minimal edges that get in the way have worn away after the first click.

You could ask your dealer if they have a navigation device that they can click into the holder to see if that works properly. This would allow them to check whether the problem lies with the holder or the N2.

As a lubricant, I would use an acid-free product so that the plastic is not damaged. I often use a little bit of silicone spray or just some white Vaseline myself. (That is my personal advice and not advice from Innovv).
