  • Connection via Healtech power distributor.

Hi, I am thinking of connecting my new K7 via the Healtech power distributor that is already fitted to my 2014, BMW RGS1200 LC. In case you don’t know, the healtech only allows power to accessories once the engine is running. My questions are:

    1) What effect would not being connected direct to the battery have? i.e. would ‘parking mode’ still work? Is there an internal battery it could use between actually running the engine?

    2) When connected to the Healtech device, because it only switches power on when the engine is running, would I still need to connect the yellow wire?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi James,
It is important that the Healtech power distributor can supply enough power for the K7.
There are several examples of similar power distributors that have caused problems because they did not supply enough power.
If the power is cut off by the Healtech, the parking mode will not work either. There is no internal battery in the K7.
The yellow wire is needed to be able to start the K7 correctly, and what is certainly also important is that the K7 is also switched off correctly. This is to prevent a corrupt SD card and other problems.
What is the reason that you want to connect the K7 via a Healtech power distributor?
My advice is to power the K7 directly from the battery. You could use your Healtech power distributor to control the yellow wire.

Thank you for the quick reply Hans.

I will take your advice and connect direct to the battery, the reason for going through the Healtech was only to stop any drain on the battery when the engine wasn’t running, but I gather the K7 uses next to nothing anyway, so there isn’t any advantage. Like you say, I can connect the yellow wire to the Healtech instead of trying to find an ignition fed wire in the BM loom.

    Thanks again, Mick
