I was really looking forward to the EIS from Innovv, which arrived with the K7. Unfortunately, it is a huge disappointment for me. The EIS works relatively well, but the image quality is terrible due to the low bitrate of the recorded video stream.

12K bit/s for 1080p is far too low. The image is pixelated and blurry, the license plates, etc., are unreadable. I wonder if this low bitrate is just a firmware error because the K5 has significantly higher bitrate.

This could be the best motorcycle dashcam on the market, but this low bitrate of the encoded video ruins everything. There are three bitrate settings available, but even the highest is only 12K bit/s.

If Innovv doesn’t fix this, there’s no point in switching from the K2 to the K7 because you’ll get almost the same quality. I will have to return my new K7 camera set to the seller and continue using the old K2.

Does anyone have this issue, and perhaps have an idea how to fix it?

I guess it is just a simple choice in the firmware source code to offer an additional option for a higher bitrate (I think 20 or 24 K bit/s would be perfect) for the video encoding, so it could be a five-minute fix for Innovv to create a much better product.

    Hi Jozsef,

I have no experience with the K7 myself, but purely based on specifications I expect that the K7 should record better video than the K2. The K7 allows 2K resolution, the K2 has a maximum FHD resolution.
When I play your video I cannot choose a higher resolution than 1080p HD. Was the video recorded in 2K or in 1080? 1080p HD is then equal to the maximum resolution of the K2. What quality of video do you get if you choose 2K/30FPS? Okay, EIS may not be possible, but you should get better resolution. Try making recordings with different bit rates with this setting.
Where do you get the bitrate data from? I only see ‘low’, ‘normal’ or ‘high’. But specific numbers…
The bitrate is not only software dependent but also hardware dependent, so I doubt it can be easily adjusted in the source code alone.
The K7 cannot actually be compared to the K5. They both use different video sensors. The K5 can produce 4K video, the K7 a maximum of 2K.

Hopefully by trying different settings you can get better image quality.

    Hi Hans,

The file is recorded in 1080p+EIS. Quality: high (max bitrate) = 11948 kb/s

Please don’t just watch it, download the original file, right click/ properies and you see the bitrate.

I don’t want 2k, I want 1080+EIS without pixelation. Otherwise, even if I set to 2K the image is sharper, but it is still pixelated.

      Hi Jozsef,
What type of SD card do you use? Does it have a write speed higher than U1?

        Hi Hans.

        I use Samsung 256 Evo plus (U3).

Just finished Goldwing install. I find 2K is stable, very stable. But could just be the suspension works well. Did not try 1080P but will soon.

      Hi Bob,
Your video file cannot be played.
The link points to a location (presumably) on your phone.

I also have the new K7, and i must say i thought the video would of been better.

I have mine set to 2K High and its about a 50/50 hit or miss being able to read the reg number of car coming the other way.

If Innovv can do a firmware update which improves the video would be good.

Set @ 2K each 1 min file is just over 104MB’s which i thought was low for 2K.

    Finally I’m not alone…

Hans you said: “The bitrate is not only software dependent but also hardware dependent, so I doubt it can be easily adjusted in the source code alone.”

The K2 has 12K b/s with original firmware wich was even so poor as K7.

Here is my K2 video with modified firmware. (20k b/s!!!!!!!) You can compare the quality.

    Hi Jozsef,
I looked up some old K2 recordings of my K2.
When I watch these videos again I don’t see the artifacts you have. The videos can be viewed via these links.
    https://forestmountain.nl/innovv/K2-front.MP4
    https://forestmountain.nl/innovv/K2-rear.MP4
Unfortunately, during the recording of the front camera, a large mosquito landed on the lens, causing a dark spot to be seen on the right side of the screen.
The firmware used is the original version V0.74
