  • Disconnect from home wifi to view local files

I’m now the proud owner of a K7 on my Yamaha Tracer 9GT+. I am very impressed with the hardware. Just the quality I needed.

However, the app (Android) leaves a LOT to be desired. But only want to ask about one aspect here.

I used the app to download some videos from the unit to my phone. Went inside to view the videos and am told ‘First, please disconnect eh current Wi-fi’. It will not allow the playback to start if I’m connected to any wifi other than the camera.

If i turn off wifi, the video then plays, but will not overlay the map as I need internet for it to retrieve maps from google maps. I can however turn off wifi, start playing the video, pause the video, turn on wifi, resume the video and this works.

Does anyone have any idea why the app would need wifi to start playing videos stored on the phone?

    Thanks in advance.

    I am an iPhone user.

Once you downloaded the clips, what app on your phone did you use to try to play them?

I wonder if you tried using the Innovv app inside and not a video player.

Once the clip is on your phone, use a video app to view it.

    Just guessing here.

Yes. I was trying to play within the Innovv app by going to Document -> Local Files -> Local Video. The only reason being that I like the overlay of the route on Google Maps. Buy without wifi, it just shows the route with no roads.

Also, should say that I have no mobile/cell coverage at my house.

Just seems absolutely nuts that it cannot play the video if connected to my home wifi.

As soon as you start the app it wants the WiFi to connect to the box under the seat so it tells you to drop all other WiFi.

You need another video player. But finding one to do a map overlay is not possible since gps locations are not in the video file. Which makes me wonder where they ARE stored when still in the box.

    I think I’ll confirm

    Hi Martin,
If you want to watch the videos directly from the camera, you need a wifi connection with your camera. If the videos are downloaded, you only need an internet connection (mobile or wifi does not matter) to show the map. A wifi connection with your K7 is then not necessary. Playing downloaded videos in the app is possible without a wifi connection with the K7.

But do I understand from your 2nd comment that you can now play the videos but do not see a map?
Do you have a choice at the top right in the map to choose Google or Baidu? If so, make sure it is on Google.

Which version of the app are you using? Did you download the app with the red logo?

      Hi Hans,

Thanks for the reply. Indeed, what you have said is exactly what I would expect. But it not what is happening. When I’m trying to view local files, am an not connected to the camera. Instead I am only connected to my home wifi for internet.

Strangely, it is my home wifi that it makes me disconnect from. Which doesn’t make any sense to me. If I disconnect from my home wifi, I can happily start the playback, but no roads on the map. If I then pause the playback, turn on wifi again, continue the recording, it works.

But for whatever reason, it won’t start playback if connected to my home wifi.

      Very bizarre.

      Thanks

    Hi Martin,
Are you able to connect your phone to another wifi point? For example at work or somewhere else. As long as you are not connected to your own wifi. Then see if it works properly. If it does, then there is something in your own wifi network that is causing the problem.
Did you have a good GPS registration during recording? If there is no GPS data embedded in the video, the app cannot display a route. You can check this by installing DashcamViewer on your computer and playing the recorded videos with this program. The free version is sufficient to test this.
