    Ghosting?

Posted by Murray on 2026-06-08 at 20:32

I submitted this issue to INNOVV support, but I wanted to see if others have had the same issue. I would compare this to the ghosting issues I had before with my Nav VI that Garmin replaced. Here is what I sent support:

I purchased a N2 for BMW last week and it arrived on Saturday, thank you for the quick shipping! Before I even turned it on, I followed the directions to update the firmware, to ensure it has the most current version.
I have had 2 opportunities to use it and I am having some intermittent issues. Yesterday I rode 20 mins and met with some friends, for this 20 mins it worked fine. I turned off the motorcycle to talk with my friends and after 10 mins we got on our bikes and went for a ride. For the first 30 mins or so of that 90 min ride, the screen would randomly change, like someone was turning and selecting things with the wonderwheel, I was not touching the wonderwheel at all. After about 30 mins the behaviour stopped and did not happen again on that ride.

This morning I was riding to work and stopped to get fuel after 10 mins. When I turned the bike back on the behaviour returned and persisted for the 15 min ride from there to my office. When I parked, it was still doing it and I took a short video.

I had to shorten the video to attach it here, but you get the jist, the bike is running, I have both hands on the phone and the Wonderwheel is not in use.

    My bike is a 2020 BMW F850GSA, non-TFT screen.

    Hi Murray,
That indeed looks like the ghosting of the Nav VI.
With my Nav VI, ghosting was caused by grease stains on the touchscreen. After cleaning it thoroughly, the problem was gone.
Does the touchscreen still look intact? No bumps, dents, pits, or scratches?
Is there no dirt between the edge of the screen and the housing either?
Are the contacts between the N2 and the BMW cradle also clean (grease-free?) Cleaning agents can sometimes leave a residue, which can cause poor contact. Even rubbing alcohol sometimes leaves some residue behind.
It is possible that after driving for 30 minutes, the contacts vibrated ‘clean’, causing the ghosting to stop.
If the problem persists and everything looks intact, clean, and normal, you can always contact the seller to have the N2 replaced under warranty.

      Thanks Hans,

I removed the plastic on the back and mounted it, right after removing the Nav VI, didn’t clean the contacts, I will do that and see if it makes a difference. I removed the screen cover that was on during shipping and put the screen protector on, the screen appeared clean and dust free. The protector appears to of adhered properly, no marks or air bubbles. Honestly, I’m not sure the value of a screen protector as often they seem to cause more issues then they solve.

        Hi Murray,
I removed the screen protector from my Nav VI myself. It was of no value to me and only caused problems. The touchscreen works even better without a screen protector. I think it is also a matter of keeping your screen clean to prevent problems.

A screen protector isn’t the most expensive purchase, so it is worth trying it without one as well.

I have exactly the same issue and it happens in a very similar fashion to your display. I have a 2017 R1200GS LC. The Innovv N2 screen is great when it behaves but on every trip I have been on it has the same ghosting issue after about 30 minutes or so of riding, sometimes sooner. As part of my troubleshooting I have replaced the wonder wheel and dismantled the cradle to circuit board level and cleaned the cradle pins (probably not worth doing but I wanted to have a look). I thought I had sorted it by adding some electrical tape to where the screen locks in to the cradle making it sit tighter against the pins but after an hour of riding last night the problem returned. Mine does the same ghosting even when its not using CarPlay and on the default screen so I can rule out the phone being the issue. I would be interested as to the result of your support case as I have run out of ideas as to what else to try.

Support did not have much else to offer then an updated firmware which improved the issue but did not eliminate it. I have it packaged up to return for a refund.

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. I suspect I will have to do the same but I will try a support ticket and go from there.
