Indicator always on
Posted by Zahi on 2026-05-01 at 18:21Hi,
I have installed and used the RC6 for few months now with no issues.
Couple of days ago, while driving both warning indicators turned on and stayed on after turning down the engine.
I discussed and connected the system from the battery and it returned to normal function.
The next day after turning on, the left indicators turned on and stayed on while sometimes flickering (mostly constant).
Occasionally the system returns to normal.
I checked the wiring and detector. Nothing seems to be disconnected or blocking the detector. When I disconnected the rear camera/detector the light turns off.Today again the system turned the two indicators on and I had to disconnected and reconnect the power.
Any idea what can I check next or how to fix the problem?

Hi Zahi,
It seems the problem lies in the camera/detector unit. If you disconnect it, does the front camera work properly? Are recordings saved without problems then? If you connect the camera/detector and the malfunction occurs, is video recording made with the rear camera at that moment? This is to rule out whether the problem lies in the radar unit or the camera. Given the symptoms, I suspect the radar unit.
Is the power supply voltage good, measured with a multimeter? Are the red and black wires connected directly to the battery or via an EZcan or something similar? -
Thank you for your reply.
Vedio are recorded front and rear.
The unit in connected directly to the battery using a SAE connector I attached to it.
The yellow wire is connected to the switched fuse using a wire connector (BMW R1250GSA) as instructed in you manuals.
I also suspect it is a radar issue.
Yesterday I rechecked all the wiring again aand opened rolled cabels to make sure they are not broken.
Today I had a long rider (300km) starting with instability (light on for long periods).
After an hour or so of riding the system returned to a normal function for the rest of my trip.
The rear unit is located above the tail light and under the rear case.
Is that might be a problem? Should I play with the down angle of the unit or reposition it?
Is there a way to reset the radar or calibrate it?

Hi Zahi,
The radar, is it not contaminated by splashing water/mud? But that shouldn’t affect the operation, and certainly not the fact that the warning lights remain on when the engine is turned off.
Could it be that moisture got into the connectors and that this moisture evaporated after an hour of riding? Check the connectors to see if there are rubber rings inside. These rings are there to make the connectors watertight.
It is the case with various BMW motorcycles (including my K1600GT) that when the ignition is turned off, the voltage remains on for almost a minute on various switched power supplies. Because of this, the RC6 can stay on a bit longer after turning off the ignition.
The radar unit must have a clear view all around. Can you post a photo of where you placed the radar?
The radar cannot be reset or calibrated. Here is a photo of how I mounted the ThirdEye on my BMW. This placement has no influence on the operation.

Hi,
You can see the camera’s position in the image, and the sensor is clean.
The idea that moisture may have evaporated after an hour is interesting.
I’m not sure which connector you are referring to—the one under the seat with the system’s brain, or the area marked in the second image?
Regarding the area shown in the image (the cable to the camera), I don’t see any rubber. Should I add some insulation there? The other connections are not exposed to rain, and I don’t recall them having rubber seals.
If you have a photo of what you mean, I would appreciate it.
Just to clarify: usually, only the left indicator stays on, and it turns off within a minute of switching off the motorcycle (which is normal for a BMW). To my understanding, this suggests the problem is with the detector.
Only twice have both indicators stayed on after switching the bike off, requiring me to disconnect the system from the battery.

Hi Zahi,
The connectors I mean are the connectors at the end of the cables, see the attached image. I believe they are small orange rubber rings that sit inside the connectors. I don’t have an RC6 myself, so I can’t compare. However, I do have other models where these rings are present in the connectors.
If you point the radar unit a little further down, does it work properly then? It could be that the edge of your top case is right on the edge of whether or not it detects.
But in any case, it remains strange that one or both indicator lights stay on after switching it off. -
Hi,
Connectors are fine.
After using for few days, the issue is the radar unit.
Rear camera is working fine.
It can work fine and then start to flicker or stay one constantly.
Mostly it is the left side but can be both indicators.
As opposed to what I thought, when bick turned off, the system does go down after ~1min.
Any idea how can I get a replacement or global service?

Hi Zahi,
It is correct that the unit switches off after about 1 minute when your BMW is turned off. With various BMWs, the switched power is not switched immediately with the ignition; there is a delay. After that, the RC6 itself also needs some time to switch off. So a delay of about a minute is not a problem. If you bought your RC6 directly from Innovv, you can contact them by email ([email protected]) or via the contact form https://innovv.com/pages/contact
