Hi, I am planning on installing a k6, and a power hub 3 to clean up the battery connections. I have a lot of other accessories connected to the battery terminals and it getting crowded.

Question is, is the k6 compatible with the power hub for automatic recording.

The k6 will be wired via the k6 power adapter/connector, to the power hub supply, which is a switched power supply. Therefore the k6 will not receive it’s own constant power from the battery.

I want to ensure that when the ignition is turned on the k6 will start auto recording and stop recording , as if it was wired directly to the battery with the yellow switched wire connected to a switched power source.

    Hi Charles,
To make the K6 start and stop automatically, it must be controlled via the yellow wire (ignition switched). I believe the PowerHub 3 is indeed switched via the ignition, but it then abruptly cuts off all power supplies. And you don’t want that with the K6.
But if you want to be sure about this, send Innovv an email.

You could use a Fuzeblock FZ-1. It wires to battery and can give constant or switched power. You can feed 6 different accessories.

I use it for K6 (constant power), Satnav (switched power), usb socket (switched power), and heated gloves (switched power).

Thanks for the fast responses both.

It seems that using the power hub will make the k6 operate as if it was just connected to a normal switched usb port. Looking at the previous forum posts and the instructions it looks like it will work in the bicycle mode where you need to press the button to turn on and off each use.

I’ve unfortunately already received the power hub and cut off all the fuses. I’m going to crimp on some Deutsche connectors and make a plugin harness for the accessories. So in the future I only have to pin a connector to any new parts and everything is removable / transferable. I repinned the bikes single switched accessory connector to the hub trigger wire.

I was going to use a normal auto parts relay, but when I saw the power hub I thought it would be more expensive but a neat OEM+ solution; but made the wrong assumption it would be compatible.

At least I can use the power hub as a switched live for the k6 trigger.

    Thanks again

      Hi Charles,
Please ensure that before using the Powerhub as a power source for the K6, you properly switch off the K6 (using the button) before the power is cut off by the Powerhub.

If the K6 is not shut down properly (manually/via the yellow wire), this is a recipe for trouble. Failure to shut down the K6 properly can cause the recording in progress to not be finished correctly, making it unreadable. Additionally, the SD card can become corrupted, resulting in all sorts of strange problems. Compare it to a computer; you have to shut that down properly too.
