K6 not auto shutting down.
Posted by pal on 2024-09-07 at 01:19Hello,
The K6 fitted to my BMW R1300 GS is t shutting down when I switch off the ignition, the power supply light is blue, the yellow cable is connected to a switched live, the red light stays on.
I can turn the camera off by the button and it will auto on with the bikes ignition but it will not turn off.
I purchased the unit on 30th March 2024.
Your help would be appreciated.
Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,
If you do nothing with your K6, it switches on and off with the ignition of your engine? Do I understand this correctly? Or does only the red LED remain lit after switching off the ignition? The fact that the blue LED of the power supply remains lit means that the battery voltage of your motorcycle is good.
I have done a test with my K6 myself, but cannot generate the same problem. Could it be that you are not waiting long enough for the K6 to switch off? If the voltage on the yellow wire drops, it takes about 20 seconds for the K6 to switch off. I know from my own BMW (K1600GT) that there are switched power supplies that retain voltage for 30 seconds after switching off the ignition. It can therefore take about 50 seconds for the K6 to switch off.-
Hi Hans,
Thanks for getting back to me, the K6 starts with the ignition but when I turn the ignition off the red light stays on, I’ve watched it for more than 10 minutes until I have to shut it down manually, this is the 4th Innovv unit I’ve had and apart from a DVR and a few remotes packing up the only one that hasn’t actually functioned as expected.

Hi Paul,
Try flashing the firmware again, maybe that will help.
Can you also measure if the voltage on the yellow wire also drops when the ignition is turned off?-
Hi Hans,
Sorry for the delay, I’ve flashed the firmware, now showing the most up to date, I’ve also bought an adaptor to fit into the satnav feed so can see the power go off when the satnav shuts down, just tried it again, the camera will turn on just after the bike is started but it will not turn off, I left it for an hour and had to turn it off manually, I don’t have a voltage meter.
I’m pretty sure this has been happening since I fitted the camera, I thought it was the Tracker running my battery down, I’ve been turning the camera off and no more issue with the battery, could the camera be faulty, I may try to connect my old K7 up and see what happens, if it works it will prove the K6 is defective.
Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,
I suspect that you will have to claim your power converter under warranty.
The fact that you are quickly having battery problems means that quite a lot of current is being drawn. In general, motorcycle batteries (if they are good) can power an Innovv camera for quite some time without any power problems.
All the more reason that I suspect that the power converter of the K6 is defective.
