  • K7 daily usage without phone wifi connected

    Hi,

I wonder if the forum could help me. I posted a similar question on the K7 page, but the answer was inconclusive, so I hope to get more clarification here at the forum with your help 🙂

I understand there is an Innovv app that connects via Wi-Fi to the K7 unit to manage settings, download videos, etc.

    1. I wanted to know if, once all the settings are in order and everything is ready to go, the system will start and keep recording as usual when I power the bike on, even if I don´t have the phone with me.

    2. If it’s possible but with issues, what would be those issues?

    3. If an initial wifi connection with the K7 unit is always needed when I power the bike on so it may start recording, does it need to stay connected the whole time?

Why am I asking this? Because:

    a) I want to leave the phone wifi connection free to connect to other devices such as Carplay and still video record the whole ride;

    b) I may forget, lose, break or run out of battery on my phone and still video record the whole ride.

    Thanks!

Your phone is only used for making settings to the

“dVR” box and viewing/downloading. It is not required for your driving.

I am new to K7 but my background is IT

    – you can configure the k7 to broadcast a WiFi HotSpot for 5 or 10 minutes or always on. When it does, your phone can connect (wi-fi) to the k7 WireLess Network to be able to do what you want ( change settings, access files, watch live feed (Cams) etc).

    – once configured, you don’t need at all to stay connected to the k7 WiFi Network…. BTW it’s not using internet…. It’s a private Wireless network to make communication between the app and your DVR unit possible

    – if you don’t want a HotSpot under your but, you can set it to only broadcast 5 minutes.

    – yes the k7 keeps the settings the last time you configured it

You can get your picts or video using the app ( longer… For now I was not able to…) or by removing the SD Card.

Thanks Jeff. That would be my assumption, and I’m glad you guys confirmed it.

Yet, I can’t figure out why I got precisely the opposite answer from Innovv here: https://innovv.com/products/innovv-k7-dashcam

“Yes, you have to connect to the K7’s WiFi every time you use the K7 in order for the system to work properly.” 🤔

        Just got this from Innov

        Hi friend,

You don’t need to keep the wifi connection all the time.

The disconnection and connection of wifi will not effect the recording function.

        Best regards,

Not yet but but my eMail to them is recent. 6 hours time zone difference or more… DO not know who repond.

I did a ride today to test other resolution 1080 30fps wioth EIS ( stabilization) and 1080 60fps.

And my K7 just ran with the config I set it to… Didn’t connected to it.

On my way back for fun, I connected to the K7 DVR and open the App and launched the Live Rear Cam View / full Screen

It’s was like some kind of ” Live – Cam Back View Mirror ” LOL Distracting but fun

          Nice 🙂

So it seems all is good then. Perhaps they somehow misunderstood my question.

It is set and forget so far for me.

Getting a WiFi connection on an iPhone sometimes stalls with the wheel of death, so just slide WiFi off and instantly back on and it connects instantly.

    Hi Bernado,

On which other K7 page did you ask your question?

    1
If you have connected the yellow wire properly to a switched power supply, the K7 will start automatically when you turn on the ignition of your motorcycle. The K7 will then also turn off automatically when the ignition is turned off.

    2
iPhones sometimes have trouble getting a wifi connection with the Innovv cameras. If this is the case, the advice is to put the iPhone in airplane mode and then manually make the wifi connection.

    3
The iPhone does not have to be connected to the K7.
The K7 will automatically start recording.
The iPhone only has to be connected to the K7 if you:

    • want to change settings
    • want to download recordings.

To download a lot of recordings, it is better to put the SD card in your computer. The wifi connection of the K7 is not fast. Downloading a lot of videos takes too much time. Downloading a single video is no problem.

    Hi Hans,

Thanks for your comments. My original question was placed on the K7 page, in the questions section. I believe it’s still the latest.

Yes, now it surely seems that way. In the end, I decided to go for it anyway to take advantage of the promo discount. Fingers crossed!
