  • K7 GPS keeps taking multi minute delays to start tracking speed

It’s not that it won’t work, but it takes too long. In the first one or two minutes the gps light of the GPs is solid maybe even earlier but i do not have any speed tracking from the gps and I’ve checked more times than I can count on the videos aftewards. It takes more than seven to ten minutes of ride to start showing speed. The weird part is that after the first ride if i ride my bike again after the stop in a range of two to three hours from the last one I get speed tracking almost immediately.

Why does it take so much time to get a speed lock after a days delay (give or take) before i ride again? Could it be a malfunction of the gps module? I have it placed under the seat and as I said the light on the module that monitors the gps camera and such is solid soon after I start my bike which should mean it has a gps lock but somehow the speed is not registered on my video recording until lots of minutes later.

I can provide videos if you’d like to showcase the phenomenon

    Hi Petros,
It’s possible that the GPS initially gets a fix when you’re stationary, but the signal is too weak to get a good speed reading while riding. The GPS module must have a clear view of the sky, and the text on the GPS module must be facing up. Since your GPS module is mounted under the seat, this can definitely hinder the GPS signal. Try mounting the GPS module in a different location so it has a clear view of the sky. Also, if you turn on the K7 a day later, it will need to get a new fix. After a day, the GPS satellites will be in a completely different location, and the starting position will need to be recalculated. If you start riding again after a short stop, for example, the locations of the GPS satellites won’t have changed much. You’ll then get a fix more quickly.
