loses the date
Hi, the camera has lost the date setting on several occasions. It resets to the year 2000 and then stops counting forward. I’ve reformatted the SD card and even tried a different card, but after a while, it loses the setting again.
I’m wondering if the voltage drops too low when I start the motorcycle and if that’s the root cause, though I do find it strange.
As it stands, I don’t dare rely on it to record during an accident, which is what it’s supposed to do. I have to check that the date is correct before I drive, which is completely unsustainable. So, I’m thinking about switching to a Chinese model that’s cheaper and actually works.
I have the latest software installed, and the motorcycle is a KTM 1290 SAS.

Hi Niklas,
It is possible that the problem is caused by the supply voltage being too low. I once had to reload the firmware on my K5 because the supply voltage had dropped below 10 volts, causing the firmware to become corrupted.
Are the red and black wires connected to a constant power supply? Switching the red and black wires is a recipe for trouble. -

The voltage likely drops to around 10 volts when it starts.
The camera is connected to an Innovv DC/DC converter, so it should disconnect if the voltage drops.
Is there a battery in the camera that might need replacing?

Hi,
The DC converter does not cut off power when the voltage is too low; it simply prevents parking mode from being activated under low-voltage conditions.
Consequently, low voltage can certainly still cause problems—especially if the supply voltage is too low and the K5 is activated by the yellow wire being switched on.
There is no battery inside the K5. I think you should look for the solution in the power supply.
