N2 GPS data in the .ts files?
Posted by Joe on 2026-02-18 at 06:12Is the GPS data embedded in the .ts file? In the past (k3 and the like) you needed to have the file format as mp4 to get the gps data in the file for stuff like Dashcam Viewer to work.
I’ve been doing testing and I cant get any data out of the .ts files that would be compatible with dashcam viewer. This a known limitation?

Hi Joe,
I don’t have an N2 myself, so I can’t test it myself unfortunately.
Do you have the version with the GPS module? If you have the version with the GPS module, do you see the speed/course displayed while driving?
Can you upload a .ts and an .mp4 file, or perhaps send it to me via PM? Then I can test it. I’m curious whether or not I can extract GPS data from it. -
I just set up my N2 and was a little surprised that “Dashcam Viewer” couldn’t open the files. That was slick with my K3 files (but the K3 was otherwise a disaster for me in terms of usefulness).
Here’s hoping that between the Dashcam Viewer software being updated, or perhaps updates to the N2 to pick file formats, we can get this sorted.
I’ve seen enhancement requests on Innovv’s site which came to fruition (option to toggle status lights off so it doesn’t flash in your face when riding at night, for example) so maybe they can be encouraged to offer a “write to MP4” option on the N2 as well.

yeah fingers crossed! I found it weird the N1 and N2 both seem to only write to .ts.

Hi Joe,
The advantage of a .ts file is that if the current video recording isn’t closed properly, it can still be played. An improperly closed .mp4 file is often unplayable. Failure to close a video recording properly can occur if the camera’s power is suddenly removed, preventing the camera from closing the recording properly. Consider a motorcycle accident, for example. Being able to play the last video recording for insurance purposes can be crucial in such cases.

Last time I tried, Dashcam Viewer plays the AUDIO from my N2 .ts files, but not video. Will try again with a fresh set of files this week.

Hi Charles,
Can you upload a recording? Or contact me via PM to send a file so I can see if I can play it.
Does your computer have the correct video codecs?-
I’ve sent a DM with a link to a couple of small video files. Good luck!

GPS data is present in the N2 (.ts) video recordings.
See also your PM.-
Replying here so others can see: Apparently the .ts files play just fine in the WINDOWS version of Dashcam Viewer. On MacOS (I’ve tried two different machines) I get audio, GPS info, and a blank/black screen for video. 🙁

I heard back from the man who writes/supports DashCam Viewer and he says that the Mac version uses the QuickTime engine to render video, so if QT cannot play it, neither can DashCam Viewer. Unfortunate. It would be nice if INNOVV could offer the option to write to MP4 files (with GPS data embedded), even if it’s not the ideal format, so that we’d have a way to easily play back our videos on MacOS.

I have asked Innovv if they can enable the choice of .mp4 as well as .ts video recording on all camera systems.
The more users ask for this, the greater the chance that Innovv will want to include this in their software developments.
