  • Need your opinions on an app under development

I ride a Goldwing with the K7. It seemed obvious that if an incident happened on the road, I would need to quickly manipulate the SD card while away from my desktop computer. So being an Apple developer I set out to solve that problem in addition to general needs for a pleasant ride.

I would like your opinions. It is Apple only, and English only. I would create an Android equivalent of it proved successful enough.

The app can log your ride in GPS increments from 1 to 300 seconds. You can add unlimited waypoints either in advance or while riding through Siri voce commands. You can attach multiple photos to each waypoint to view as an album at each point when you display your saved tracks. My app addresses checklists and maintenance tasks and lets you record what you set up to check and how you handled maintenance issues and costs. It will let you log all types of costs on a trip, food, lodging, ferries, etc.

Fuel-ups are recorded, a photo of the pump face can be used extract the data automatically or you can type it in. The brand and grade are kept. Fuel consumption averages can be selected for a date range or in total since new. Fuel stops appear as waypoints on your displayed track. Tracks can be emailed or texted to anyone who might want to keep track of your tour. You can import .gpx format tracks from your bike if they are produced like the Goldwing.

The video handling is extensive and it is about this component I would like to hear your comments. My goal was to provide whatever you need to re-use your dash cam video, especially in an incident when authorities might ask for it.

You place the micro SD card into a USB-C adapter and plug it into your phone. Then you tap Video “Analyze/Create Videos”. The option opens to a technical analysis of the contents. It counts your clips by the direction you were moving in or were stopped. It reveals the technical specs for video and audio. Then it shows how much room you have on your phone for each of 4 resolutions from SD to 2K. And how long it takes to transfer or create new videos.

This is followed by a map displaying the location of every clip on the card as a coloured direction arrow. Zoom in or double tap an empty area to select a specific clip. You are prompted to choose the length of clip(s) you want to work with from that point onwards, 1, 5, 10, 20 minutes or the rest of the ride. A ride is terminated by a minutes value you control. You can Mae any clip a “favourite” and later filter the clips displayed to only that ride or within 10 minutes of that clip.

The selected clip then starts to play. You can choose front, rear or both in either over/under or side by side or picture in picture. As you watch, your current position always appears on the map showing your saved waypoints. When the time elapses, you can then choose to see more time or you can choose to see all clips in sequence by date and time.

While viewing, you can turn on/off a text display of the current speed, g forces and lean angles. A graphic G meter with built in speedometer can be viewed and it rotates right-left as you run a corner to emulate your bike.

Select the download symbol at any time during play and you manipulate a series of settings for a new video you will create: The date and time to start and end. Show an Intro screen summarizing the ride. Show G Meter. Show compass directions. Show the map. Show waypoints. Hide the burned in data un the lower left. Show curves only… drop boring straight sections. Eliminate stops, even more boring. Then select the resolution of your new video. 2K, Full hd 1080P, hd 720P, or 540P SD.

Then press “Convert and save to Photos. Thumbnails display for each second of the new file and a progress bar tracks progress.

When your video is ready you can view it, or delete and try again with different settings, email or text it to anyone.

I think I will charge USD $9.95 as a one time cost.

I would like to hear your thoughts on whether the app would be worth that. If I am under pricing it, tell me that too. I am in the position of having to support it for the long run. Subscriptions bother me a bit though.

Also, is there another function you would like to see in the perfect motorcycle app for Innovv users?

    Thanks for considering,

    Bob
