Hi All. I spent about 5 hrs on Sunday installing a K6 on my BMW R1250GS.

Before installing I tested everything using the USB power cord and everything checked out fine…

After getting the front camera installed where I wanted it.. again checked functionality as I added items…

Completed install using the DC (ACC) unit for power… Everything tested fine.

on Monday I finally got to go for a ride. Everything powered up fine (automatically), recorded fine (checked at first stop), and generally behaved well.

After returning to the bike I rode to car wash and washed the bike and came home. Didn’t pay any attention to the camera after returning to the bike.

About 30 min after getting home I decide to go for another ride and noticed that camera didn’t power up…tried to do it manually. Checked ACC unit (it was blinking blue suggesting it was supplying power). Luckily I had access to the initial power connection (I had to use extension cable) and tried using the USB cable for power… the unit still would not power up.

Removed SD card door and reseated it.. Nothing…

A day later and nothing has changed. unit won’t power up on Bike power, or external USB power (same USB power I used to initially set up and test the entire system prior to installation).

Do I have a bum unit?

    So.. I did more troubleshooting.

I pulled the card to see what was on the card. Video to store and car wash are all there in 3 min clips as I would expect. I got video the whole way home from the car wash to when the unit shut off after I turned off the ignition in the garage.

My video to town are all 3 min clips. Coming home from car wash, I have some strangeness. I have 5 3 min clips, then a string of 4 seconds, 52 seconds, 17 seconds, 4 seconds, 9 seconds, 4 seconds, 3 seconds, then back to 3 min that ends with me entering the garage, and the last 22 seconds after I shut off the bike… IT NEVER COMES BACK ON.

don’t know if this helps determine if the unit is dead… but as far as I’m concerned it’s dead, and need to figure out how to do a warranty replacement of the unit.

I’ve opened a ticket.. but have not received any email in that regard, and silly how I can’t view my ticket status through the website.

    Hi Peter,

Has the bike been cleaned in the car wash with a high-pressure washer (or another strong water jet)? If so, water may have entered the K6 after all.
The K6 is IP67, which means that it is waterproof (30 minutes, 1 meter deep), but is therefore not resistant to strong water jets (not pressure-waterproof).
Once moisture has gotten into the K6, it is difficult to get it out. After all, this came into the K6 with high pressure.
Water from the car wash (probably also mixed with soap), and electronics and electricity is a guaranteed recipe for problems.
So I’m afraid your K6 is definitely dead.

So people with Innovv cameras don’t typically wash their bikes with pressure washers and pay attention to where high pressure is being directed? I personally don’t know any adventure bike rider that rides on dirt roads that doesn’t use a pressure washer to clean their bikes.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t need to direct any high pressure to the area where the front camera was just installed. I also did not find ANY moisture in the sd card door area, I opened and used a tissue to see if there was moisture.

Either way, my unit is dead.

Are you suggesting that I somehow voided the warranty by using a car washing system? If not, how do I go about getting a replacement DVR unit?

(not sure if you’re just an administrator of the forum, or officially connected to Innovv. Since I have not gotten any email regarding my ticket….seems like FB and this forum are the support process there)

I am not saying that the motorcycles are not washed with a pressure washer. But they must be used with caution. It’s literally in my motorcycle manual.
I just note that the K6 is IP67. Never realized it that way myself. Would actually expect it to be at least IP68. When driving at higher speeds in the rain, the rain also hits the Innovv cameras with great force.

If there is moisture in the K6, it does not necessarily have to be in the SD slot. Moisture can also have entered somewhere else and does not always have to be visible. As a (former) mobile phone repairer, I have seen enough moisture problems.

I certainly don’t want to suggest that your warranty has expired. I hope that you can claim this problem under warranty. I am not an employee of Innovv. I am only one of the administrators of this forum.

My experience is that Innovv responds quickly to questions/complaints. Have you contacted Innovv by email or via the contactform?

@StevenHu Would you like to think about a solution to this complaint?

Thanks, Hans, we consider Peter did not tighten the K6 cover, and the water leaked in during the washing.

We will contact Peter by email and help him solve the problem.
