Over-writing Files when Memory Card is full.
Posted by john-g on 2025-03-29 at 22:36Hi, I have recently installed the RC6 Camera / Radar system on my GS1250 and all has been fine except that when the 128Gig Memory Card became full, recording stopped. I had expected recording to then begin overwriting the earliest video files that were already on the Card.
Please advise how I can set the Camera to automatically overwrite the earliest files once the Memory Card becomes full.
Thanks.

Hi John,
What setting do you have for ‘Loop recording’?
It is probably still on ‘Off’. Set it to another setting and the oldest recording will be overwritten according to FIFO (first-in-first-out).-
Hi Hans,
Thanks for the prompt reply. In the Loop section of the App I have the recorded File length set on 5 minutes. Other than for adjusting this, or turning Loop off, there doesn’t appear to be any other way of forcing Loop to run.
I have had a 128 Gig Memory Card in the Camera that is normally used in my GoPro so I know that is up to the job. Yesterday I was out on a 3 hour ride and today when I went to check video as I had repositioned the camera before yesterday’s run, I found that recording had ended after about 30 minutes of leaving home and the Card showed that it was full. I do get out on the Bike a lot so the fact that the Card was full didn’t surprise me.
I have now fitted a 32Gig Card so that I can fill it up more quickly and then see if it continues to stop recording rather than Loop and overwrite earlier files.

Hi John,
If loop recording is set to off, recording will stop when the card is full.
There is no other setting in the app that allows you to set this.
I would like to hear if this was the solution.
Have fun with your K6.-
I’m not sure if my reply yesterday was posted as I can’t find it now, but further to the reply – this morning I took the GS out for about 3 hours and roughly 120 miles while using a 32Gig Memory Card. On returning home and checking it through the Innovv App, the Card was found to be full and appeared to have overwritten the Files at the beginning of my ride, so things look good. I will take the bike out again during the coming week and see if more of today’s ride is overwritten.
The only differences to the settings between Friday’s and today’s runs being that I had switched from a 128Gig Card to the 32Gig one and changed the Loop timing from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.
I will update after my next run.

Hi John,
Thanks for the feedback.
I think changing the loop timing was the solution. I would also test the 128GB, you can make more recordings with it. Format it in the K6 using the Innovv app.
Have fun with your K6.-
Thanks Hans, I’ve already switched back to the 128Gig Memory Card and reformatted it. Not had time to get out just yet and the 128Gig Card takes a bit longer to fill up, but will let you know once I get that full and have confirmed the overwriting of older files.

Hello Hans,
Now to update you on the above problem when my 128Gig Memory Card becomes full.
After reformatting the Memory Card I took the bike out on 2nd April and my journey was recorded in full – no problem.
On 10th April I took another 7.5 hour trip that was recorded in full but almost filled the Memory Card.
Today I went for a 2.5 hour run and once home checked the Memory Card. This showed no recording of today’s journey, but about the LAST 2.5 hours of the 10th April Files had been deleted (about the same amount as the length of today’s trip) and there were no Files of today’s trip or any reference on clips of today’s date!
I still have Loop recording set at 3 minutes and the Card shows it to be full, everything else appears to be in order.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks,
John.

Are you checking the card via WiFi, or ate you putting into a computer?

Hi John,
I assume that you have formatted the SD card using the Innovv app.
I have personally experienced that when you read the SD card in a computer, the Innovv camera no longer knows how to handle the SD card properly. The camera sometimes sees the SD card as full or can sometimes no longer read the stored recordings on the SD card. Only after reformatting with the app does the SD card function properly again. But then all existing recordings on the SD card are deleted by the formatting.
do not know whether you have read the SD card in your computer between the different recordings.
You could therefore perform a (long) test by formatting the SD card using the Innovv app, and then not removing it from the camera until you are certain that recordings have been overwritten. This can be checked with the Innovv app. With the Innovv app you can easily check whether recordings have already been overwritten.-
Hi Adam and Hans,
You could be right. Originally I did format the Memory Card while in the Camera using the App but after the long run on 10th April did remove the Card and downloaded the files to my PC, then replaced the Card into the Camera but didn’t reformat as I wanted to see what would happen when it became completely full.
I will reformat the Card now while in the Camera using the App and see what happens next time it becomes full.
Thanks for your help.
John.
P.S. Just checked the Camera through the App and after switching on the Bike’s ignition and the Camera firing up, no recording was taking place. Reformatted the Card using the App and turned on the ignition again, now the Cameras are recording correctly. So will wait to see what happens when the Card becomes full.

Hi Adam and Hans,
Just an update following a couple of trips I’ve made this week.
This morning I checked the recorded Files on the Memory Card while using the App and just switching the Camera and WiFi on. I noticed that although the Memory Card still had plenty of available space, Files from yesterday’s trip were not showing at all.
After some playing around with the App I went back to view “Continuous Files” from the Camera and could see that yesterday’s Files were beginning to show and after sometime all Files became visible on my Phone. So now I believe that maybe a lot of my previous problems with the Camera not recording when the Card was full, could have been down to the Camera recording OK but not having had sufficient time to fully update the Files from Card to the App on my iPhone when trying to view them.
I will continue to monitor things, especially once this Memory card becomes full and will see then if I still have the original problem.
Regards,
John.

Hi John,
Good to see the camera is actually recording.
Might be worth clearing the cache on the app. That should force it to re-populate from the camera.
I’ve not managed to fill my SD Card yet, and I have an android phone, so this is just general advice.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the suggestion I will try that after my next ride out on Sunday.

Hi John,
Since the K6 only has a 2.4GHz wifi connection, the transfer speed is not high. If you have video recordings that are somewhat larger in size (higher resolution, longer loop recording), it can indeed take a bit longer for the app to show the recordings.
In my opinion, the wifi connection is only useful for adjusting settings with the app. For quickly viewing multiple recordings, the wifi connection is simply too slow.
