In case you haven’t sorted this I’ve just installed one on my FJR and mounted the control box on top of the ECU cover. Same issue as you, I moved it further to the left so it was butted up under the frame and now works when handlebars are moved and side stand is flicked up. I had to use two layers of 3M tape to secure the control box so there was enough pressure on the frame. Time will tell if it maintains it’s position.
