  • Systematic end-of-file recorded video missing / dropping 8–10s of footage

I am seeing a 100% reproducible issue with the K7 (latest firmware IK7.20250317.V05) where, after 4–8 minutes of riding, one pair of recordings (front+rear) is missing the final 8–10 seconds of video. The subsequent file pair starts on time, meaning there is a permanent gap in the timeline.

This happens 100% of trips for me – does it for you? Note this is very subtle, you won’t notice unless you pay close attention to the recording file durations (or size). If you have a K7, can you please check: every recording should be around the same size, 106.5MB for a 1-minute interval. Somewhere around the 4th to 8th pairs of front+rear, one pair will will be shorter by 5-10s, or about 90MB in size.

TBC, it’s only the final 8-10s that’s missing from the end, I’ve never seen a recording cut at the start or in the middle of a file.

I’ve been going back and forth with INNOVV support on this, and specifically have asked them if they’ve been able to reproduce the issue (given it’s 100% reproducible for me). They have avoided answering that, instead suggesting everything _except_ the dashcam could be an issue, e.g “it’s the card”, or power supply related. Yet I’ve eliminated the card – issue occurs identically across four SD Cards, from two different manufacturers (3 x SanDisk Endurance and a no-name, all U3 rated and all work fine in terms of no issues on any other file); formatted by the app or not. And the main power supply is directly to the battery; moreover the issue only occurs at the end of a file recording, and correctly starts a new recording at the next 1 minute interval.

If you’ve seen this issue, it would be worth reporting as it may motivate INNOV to look into it and even fix it.

NOTE: I believe this is unrelated to the SD Card / power issues discussed in the “K7 randomly stops recording and restarts recording during rides”; the key difference being only one file pair is truncated, only at the end, and no halt/etc occurs.

    Hi Ben,
With an interval other than 1 minute, does the problem still occur after 4-6 minutes? And with a longer interval, do you also miss more seconds?

I was running with 3-minute intervals and was seeing the same kind of behaviour; “only” 5-10s missing only from the end of a file. I’ll have to recheck on the elapsed time/number of files.

      @Hans , do you have a K7?

    Hi Ben,
I was wondering if there might be a correlation between the length of the recording and the missing seconds. This might point towards a cause/solution.
If you record at a lower resolution or a different bitrate, does this still affect the problem?

    I don’t own a K7 myself, but I have experience with K2, K3, K5, H5, K6, N1 Pro, and ThirdEye. The K7 is still on my wish list.

Small update: I’ve confirmed this is occurring across multiple cards (128 and 256GB Sandisk U3 Max Endurance), and regardless of whether or not the card is formatted in the camera. Over the last ~6 recordings (each of 25-30 mins), it’s always been only the 6th file that’s cut short (with one-minute intervals). I’ll switch that to 3 minute intervals and see what changes.

I haven’t done any longer rides over the last few weeks, so can’t tell if it’s _only_ happening in the initial period after boot, or repeats at some interval >30 mins. I hopefully will get a longer ride this weekend, will aim to update here after that.

INNOV support are implying the unit I have is defective, seems like a very odd hardware bug! I have to wonder if it’s widespread but too minor for most people to notice?

    Hi Ben,

Please turn off the automatic Wi-Fi shutdown and check whether this changes the behavior.
The moment the Wi-Fi switches off, recording stops for a few seconds on my K3. It is very likely that the same thing happens on the K7.

    Regards,

    Marc

SOLVED: the “wifi active duration” is buggy

This is indeed the failure: the missing 10s is correlated with the segment where the wifi would turn off. I disabled this (“wifi active duration=on”) and lo and behold, no missing bits.

So this appears to be a design/firmware bug as opposed to a hardware fault.

I wanted to try the 3 minute period too, but unfortunately my K7 NVR is now outright failing after a period of time. That is, separate to the “missing/dropping 10s” bug, I have a faulty unit; I expect that’s the root cause of the other issues I’ve been seeing as discussed in this thread: https://forum.innovv.com/forums/discussion/k7-randomly-stopping-and-restarting-during-rides/.
